Greenglish or Greeklish developed when the greeks tried to represent greek letters and sounds in the latin alphabet when they faced the problem of writing e-mails for browsers that may not support greek fonts. Some people, wrote approximately-phonetically. (e.g. would write ego=me. Others kept the exact spelling, and invented conventions to represent letters that do not exist in the latin alphabet. (e.g. egw=me, but depicting omega ω as w.) Some scholars are panic-stricken by the phaenomenon (they do not know how awfulllll it is to switch from one keyboard to the other), but life goes on, and e-mails need to be readable at all browsers :)
- May I remind, that in older times, many greeks, especially from the diaspora, wrote frangokhiotika (frankish+Chios island), which was greek written in latin alphabet.
